How to Master the Query: a Toronto based workshop for writers

1 Oct

A large portion of my work day is devoted to sifting through queries. What I have discovered, is that most writers are wary of drafting a query to an agent or editor. And it shows.

With this in mind, I have decided to run a series of workshops in Toronto. The main focus of the workshop, will be to assist new writers in mastering a professional query. During the course of the workshop, I will also discuss the ongoing changes in the publishing industry, and why these changes make it imperative that writers submit professional and cohesive queries when promoting their work.

The first workshop will be held in early to mid November. I am hoping to have 8-10 participants per session. Depending on the level of interest I receive, this will determine how many workshops are run per month.

The cost per workshop will be $89 per person, and each session will run from 2-3 hours. Materials will be handed out, and participants are welcome to bring their laptops with them if they prefer to take notes that way.

The closing of the session will entail the participant drawing up a query, to which I will go over it with them to make sure that they are on the right track.
